Rainbow Road
Landscaping project for Roskilde Festival 2018.
Rainbow Road is a circling path through the area, that suggests new directions for the walking, while marking out areas of relaxation for those who pause between the winding routes. At the same time, spontaneous shifts in tempo occur since those in a hurry can get across the grassland quickly and elevated, doing no harm to the terrain.
The natural surface of the grass is separated from the man-made path, and you are free to wonder how you treat and use the surrounding nature.
At night Rainbow Road gains another dimension as it lights up from underneath, and the lights fade in and out of different hues to encouraging a playful deroute from the travelers original destination.
Humankind has invented a term we call nature, with the purpose of distancing ourselves from it.We believe that we are outside and above nature. Nature is dirty and chaotic, while we are rational and clean. Rainbow Road radicalizes human’s wish to stand above nature by creating a literal pedestal for the traveler, so she can move across the terrain without touching it.
